Long one of my personal favorite mountain destinations, Telluride finally has a chic, luxury hotel option in the Mountain Village. Horst Schultze's new Capella Telluride opened just in time for ski season, 2009, and has set a new standard in scrumptious lodging and superb service, both on the slopes and off.
The town of Telluride, one of the most colorful in the Rocky Mountains ,is located at the base of a canyon, surrounded on all sides by a wall of mountains. Mountain Village is at 9000 ft- and a complimentary gondola runs every few minutes between the two. I love this experience of floating under the stars, after a hearty dinner in one the town/s many excellent restaurants- Mother Nature puts on quite a show here, and it is all free! Visit in summer and fall for a real treat- every weekend features a different festival of music, film or the performing arts. This mountain town shows it's visitors one heck of a good time!
